The 2011 Annual General Meeting for the Rainbow Families Council Inc will be held on Sunday 11 September at 2pm, at Clyde Street Community Hall, 64 Clyde Street, Thornbury.
Join us to hear about and celebrate the work of RFC in 2010-11, and vote in a new committee. Download our flyer for more information about the AGM.
Please consider nominating to join our committee - download a nomination form. In particular, we will be seeking a new Treasurer, so if numbers are your thing please consider helping us out.
Remember that you must be a financial member to nominate for the committee [you can download and send the membership form and pay via PayPal or by EFT]. If you are unsure about your membership status, please email and we will check it for you.
At the AGM we will be voting on the proposed changes to the Statement of Purpose and Rules of Incorporation. Download the proposed changes here. As you know, these are designed to strengthen our work going forward and make it more sustainable.
We will take the opportunity at the AGM to launch our new-look website at www.rainbowfamilies.org.au - watch this space! -which will be a great resource for rainbow families, including prospective parents.
We will also be joined by Dr Jen Power who will present her "Work, Love, Play" work. Jen Power is a research fellow based at the Bouverie Centre, La Trobe University. Her work focuses on sexuality, sexual health, gender and family studies. She is currently running a major study on the experiences of same-sex parented families. The study, titled ‘Work, Love, Play: Understanding resilience in same-sex parented families’, has involved a survey of over 450 same-sex attracted parents from across Australia and New Zealand, many of whom will be followed up over a five year period. The project will also involve the development of resources to support LGBT parents and prospective parents in their dealings with service providers. You can read more about the Work, Love, Play project on Jen’s blog: http://www.work-love-play.blogspot.com/
Plus we'll have activities for the kids and we'll all enjoy a shared afternoon tea together after official proceedings.
If you can't join us on the day and would like your vote to count, please return a completed proxy form.
We look forward to seeing you there!
