Prams and Grans rally
"PRAMS & GRANS" COMMUNITY GATHERING ON THE STEPS OF PARLIAMENT.
Thursday 30 October, 9.45am for a 10am start - finish by 10.30am.
Steps of Parliament House - corner Spring St and Bourke St, City.
This week Victorian Parliament will start its final debate on the
Assisted Reproductive Technology Bill. If passed, this Bill would give all children equality under the law, whatever the nature of their conception or makeup of their family. There is no guarantee that the Bill will pass. This is
our last chance to show our MPs that all children have plenty of love,
acceptance and support from the community. That love makes a family!
Please bring prams and kids, babies and grandmas, invite family or friends who work in the city to join us. Bring balloons on strings and bright, colorful cardboard signs with slogans on them (for example: love makes my family, my children deserve equal rights, I love my two dads, why are my granchildren
second class citizens? ...)
Speakers to include Alastair Nicholson - the former Chief Justice of
the Family Court of Australia, Cath Smith - CEO of VCOSS, Alice
Kirkman (daughter of Maggie Kirkman otherwise known as a
donor-conceived, IVF child born through surrogacy !) and Felicity
Marlowe, Love Makes a Family campaign - Rainbow Families Council. Plus
an 'open mike' if anyone else wants to say something.
Parking: we suggest parking under the Museum in Nicholson Street for
$10 and walking up to Parliament - approx 10 minutes.( you could
always go to the children's museum afterwards!)
Public Transport - get off the city loop at Parliament Station - pram
lift is at the Lonsdale St exit onto Spring Street.
Trams - the number 89 and 96 stops at the corner of Bourke St and
Spring Street.
