The HREOC Same-sex Entitlements Enquiry

In 2005 the Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) launched its National Inquiry into Discrimination against People in Same-Sex Relationships: Financial and Work-Related Entitlements and Benefits, or 'Same Sex-Same Entitlements' enquiry.

HREOC sought submissions form the public on the question of federal law reform to address the discrimination faced by lesbian and gay people, in couples and with children.

Visit the HREOC site to read key documents related to the Enquiry, including a research paper, two discussion papers, copies of all public submissions made to the Enquiry and audio files of hearings HREOC conducted around Australia.

Rainbow Families Council, in our previous incarnation as the Fertility Access Rights Lobby, sent HREOC the submissions made to the VLRC enquiry as evidence of a range of impacts of inequality in benefits. We also endorsed the submission made to the Enquiry by the Victorian Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby.

A number of people involved with the Rainbow Families Council also made personal submissions, and spoke at the Melbourne public hearing at 26 September 2006, of which written notes and audio files are available on the HREOC website.
