Membership benefits
Rainbow Families Council is a volunteer organisation (read more about us). We receive no ongoing funding and have no paid positions. If you have enjoyed any of the membership benefits listed below, or think you might in the future, please consider becoming a financial member today (see below for membership fees). What do I get for my membership?
- You enable the Council to campaign on your behalf for equality for rainbow families.
The Council’s Love Makes a Family (including many of our members) campaigned for
many years to achieve recent changes in Victorian legislation that will legally recognise
same-sex parents are for the first time, allow all single women and lesbians access to
fertility services, and allow gay men the option of altruistic surrogacy to create a family. - You support us to organise conferences, events and information sessions for the community
about a wide range of our issues – from conception and birth, birth arrangements between
donors and parents, legal information, to how to help your kids’ crèche or school be more
inclusive …and more. You might even get a member discount when you attend one! - You support a website that brings together resources and information for and about rainbow families, so people can find information they need and connect with networks that interest them.
- You help us do community education, so that crèches, schools, health services and the wider community become more inclusive or our families and more understanding of our diverse needs.
- You can find out about support groups and local playgroups that welcome same sex-parented families.
- You get a regular newsletter.
- You can become part of an email list for rainbow families and supporters where people share a wide range of information about the law, issues affecting our families, social opportunities for families and more.
Can I afford it?
Single membership is $10 a year (that’s about 3 cups of coffee at a café; or less than 2
cents a week). You can pay $20 for 2 years if it’s more convenient. Or you can pay double
that for family membership.
Family membership is $20 a year.
You can pay online via PayPal or otherwise our membership secretary will contact you regarding payment. Membership also requires nomination by a member of the Council.
