Federal Inquiry into donor conception in Australia - submissions due 30 July |

INFORMATION ABOUT THE FEDERAL INQUIRY
On 23 June 2010 the Senate referred the following matter to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee for inquiry and report. The past and present practices of donor conception in Australia, with particular reference to:
- (a) donor conception regulation and legislation across federal and state jurisdictions.
- (b) the conduct of clinics and medical services, including:
- (i) payments for donors,
- (ii) management of data relating to donor conception, and
- (iii) provision of appropriate counselling and support services;
- (c) the number of offspring born from each donor with reference to the
risk of consanguine relationships; and - (d) the rights of donor conceived individuals.
MAKING YOUR SUBMISSION
Rainbow Families Council will be making a submission on behalf of our members to the following enquiry and we encourage you to do the same. We have put together this information sheet to assist you in responding.
A few things to remember when you make a submission:
• You can respond to all or part of the issues raised – and your submission can be as short as a paragraph or longer if you prefer.
• You can suggest changes, detail positive experiences or list your concerns about past or present practices. Telling your personal story is also very important.
• You can send an online submission by going to
https://senate.aph.gov.au/submissions/pages/index.aspx - Just follow the prompts explaining how to make a submission.
• You can make an anonymous submission (without your name or name withheld)
• Alternatively you can make a confidential submission – in this instance only the Inquiry members read it and it will not be placed on the Senate website –see below for details.
• Submissions must be received by 30 July 2010. The reporting date is 30
November 2010.
