Welcome to Rainbow Families

Rainbow families are an important part of the changing definition of family in Australia. This site provides an information, support, networking and resources forum for parents, partners and prospective parents who identify as being GLBTI (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex) and their families, friends and allies.
We invite you to get informed, get support and get active.
The Rainbow Families Council is a volunteer community organization working for same-sex parented families in Victoria. We bring together lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex parenting groups, families, children's and family organisations and other allies. We aim to: share information and resources to support families, children and prospective parents; work for social and legal recognition for our children and families; speak out about the diverse realities of our lives; represent the best interests and rights of children living in rainbow families, parents and prospective parents to government and non-government bodies; and encourage families to be visible and proud.
WHAT'S NEW
- Come along to a community legal workshop on the proposed legislation to recognise same-sex parented families, to help you undertsand its potential impact on you and your family. The legislation is due to be considered in the Victorian Parliament from mid-August.
- Family Photo Campaign (Aug 2008) - send your favorite family photo to your MP with a short note introducing your family, and explaining why law reform matters to you. Legislation to recognise same-sex parented families and to remove barriers to fertility treatment is due in Victorian Parliament in mid-August 2008, so ACT NOW to support law reform.
- Would you like some support to talk to your local MP about how reform would affect you? Register now and one of our MP Visit Advisers will contact you with help and resources.
